Sports Massage

SPORTS MASSAGE

TYPES OF SPORTS MASSAGE:

Maintenance

Maintenance massage is a more regular treatment to loosen off tightness within soft tissues to improve performance and prevent injury. It will help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues, using concentrated firm pressure and specific techniques. This encourages relaxation, energises tired muscles and can improve posture.

Pre Event

Fast, light techniques are used to provide stimulation and increase blood flow to promote oxygen absorption within the relevant muscle groups. This enables the muscles to work at their optimum level and can enhance performance by increasing flexibility and range of movement whilst reducing the risk of injury.

Post Event

Post-event massage is geared towards aiding the muscles to return to their natural pre event state. It speeds up the removal of metabolic waste products from the muscles and aids in the elimination of toxins which reduce muscle spasms and fatigue. Post event massage enhances the body’s own recovery process improving the ability to return to training and competition, and reduces the risk of injury.

Rehab

Even with preventative maintenance, muscles cramp, tear, bruise, and ache. Sports massage can speed healing, reduce pain and discomfort during the rehabilitation process and reduce the risk of re-injury.

CUPPING

Cupping
WHAT IS CUPPING?

The myofascial cupping technique focuses on the fascia – the soft tissue component of the connective tissue system that covers the entire body, wrapping around muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, organs, nerves and blood vessels. When injured or overused through poor postural habits, repetitive strains etc, adhesions can form in this network of soft tissue, causing it to lose its flexibility and ‘bundle up’, becoming tight and restrictive.

The Process

The cups are placed on the skin in areas of tender/tight muscles or trigger points, then either moved along muscles to release the underlying fascia or the cups are left in place. The skin will normally redden due to increased blood flow. The cup is removed from the skin once treatment is complete.  Red marks are a result of the blood being pulled into that area. The darker the mark, the more stagnant fluids (toxins, blood and lymph) were dredged up during treatment. The marks last anywhere from a few hours to several days.

BENEFITS:

  • Stimulate Blood Flow

  • Drain Lymph and cellular debris

  • Separate layers of connective tissue to bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues

  • Soften tight muscles

  • Relieve deep muscular issues and reduce muscle spasms

  • Lift and stretch soft tissue to separate fascial restrictions

  • Increase range of movement and flexibility in joints

  • Move stagnations of lactic acid and metabolic waste and enable normal lymphatic flow to promote healthy circulation and help strengthen the immune system

FAQS

What do I wear to my Sports Massage appointment?

Comfortable underwear. During the whole session you will be covered with a towel and only the part of your body that is being worked on will be exposed.

This is my first Sports Massage treatment - What should I expect?

For the first appointment, you will be expected to fill in a client consultation form outlining any medical conditions, doctor's details, plus any contraindications. If you have any doubts of any conditions prior to treatment – please consult your GP.

I am not an athlete - Will I still benefit from a Sports Massage treatment?

Yes. Each treatment will be personally planned for the client, whether they are a professional athlete, an occasional runner or a couch potato!

If you experience pain or soreness in your neck or shoulders, for example, from sitting at your desk for too long, or from hours spent on your mobile phone, a Sports Massage will help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues, using concentrated firm pressure and specific techniques. This encourages relaxation, energises tired muscles and can improve posture.
